Mario Scappucci studied piano and composition, graduating at the “Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia” in Rome in Composition (1987), Piano (1985) and Orchestration (1988). He has also an “honorary graduation” for Ensemble music, granted by the Accademia Chigiana of Siena (1985). He has won several awards in competitions for solo and piano duo. He is Professor of Composition at the Conservatorio of Reggio Calabria, where he holds the chair of Fugue and Composition. The catalogue of his works counts many instrumental, vocal and theatrical works, performed in contemporary music series and festivals, as well as in radio programs. In September 2013, “Euridice e Orfeo”, his chamber opera in one act commissioned by the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale di Spoleto, was the subject of audience and critical acclaim. For the publisher Sonzogno in Milan, he reconstructed and orchestrated the tenor aria “Una mattina” from the opera L'Arlesiana by Francesco Cilea (1897), which was presented in the first public performance at the Freiburg Festival (2012) recorded on CD, Wexford Festival 2012, and Iesi Festival (2013) recorded now in DVD.
