Radu Ungureanu obtained his degree in music (violin) at the Music School C. Porumbesco of Bucharest (1976) and his PHD at the University of Aveiro (2010). He is the founder and conductor of Serioso Quartet (since 1975), which benefited, in the first years, masterclass with members of the Amadeus Quartet, Smetana, Tatrai, Alban Berg and Fine Arts. In Romania, Radu Ungureanu won some prizes in national violin competitions and chamber music competitions and developed a concert activity as a soloist or with his quartet, in France, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Italy, USA, Spain, Portugal, England, UAE, Korea, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania. He played all of Beethoven’s (Bucharest, 1987) and Mozart’s (Bucharest, 1989-1990) Quartets and the Integral of Bach’s Six Partitas (Bucharest, 1985) and Sonatas for Solo Violin (Oporto, 2009). Radu Ungureanu have promoted contemporary music, for violin solo or groupings through the New Music group (Bucharest) and Oficina Musical (Porto). Wilhelm Berger, Zeno Vancea, Cristian Petrescu, Cristian Berger, Virgílio Melo, among others, have dedicated works to him. He wrote several works, including the Caprices for Solo Violin, dedicated to the Portuguese violinists. Currently, Radu Ungureanu is the concertmaster of the Porto Symphonic Orchestra Casa da Música, professor at ESMAE-IPP and fellow researcher at CESEM.
